How do I install/hook up the GEOTab unit?

Installation.

The MAX-SAFE system main wiring harness provides a 2-pin DTM2 connector with Purple/Blue (system activation output) and Purple/Green (system warning output) wiring. Connect this DTM2 connector to the Geotab system in the vehicle.

You will get login credentials for MyInstall (https://myinstall.geotab.com/myinstall/public). This is a mobile friendly website installers will use to verify the unit is communicating and that the inputs are configured correctly.

As part of your pre-install check it would be worthwhile to check that the Geotab unit installed is online and communicating by entering the serial number or scanning the barcode on the GO9 device and clicking Validate (just to confirm it’s communicating prior to the installation). You’re looking for a green check for Device Status. Once confirmed make sure you unplug the GO9 from the vehicle.

Connecting the IOX-AUXM to MAX-SAFE (IOX-AUXM Installation Guide) (https://installguides.geotab.com/Guide/IOX-AUXM+Installation+Guide/33?lang=en)

  • The Purple/Blue wire from the MAX-SAFE harness will be connected to the Blue AUX1 wire on the AUXM.
  • The Purple/Green wire from the MAX-SAFE harness will be connected to the Orange AUX2 wire on the AUXM

Verification and Self Learning of inputs.

Making sure the vehicle has been chocked and cannot move.

Once the MAX-SAFE system has been installed and tested it’s time to plug back in the GO9, making sure that IOX-AUXM is plugged into the port prior to plugging the GO9 back into the vehicle.

Start the vehicle. Upon power up you will hear a series of 6 quick beeps. This is an indicator that it’s getting back on the network and it’s going to recognise that the IOX-AUXM is plugged in.

Using the MyInstall application periodically tap Validate until you see IOX-AUXM show up under the Connected Equipment section. Once it’s recognised the next step is to teach it the inputs.

AUX2 is for when MAX-SAFE detects no seatbelt. The output signal will be active when the MAX-SAFE system is in warning state (the external tonal alarm will be pulsing).

  • To get the system into warning state, the installer should start with Park Brake applied,
  • Sit in the seat, then place seat belt into buckle,
  • Then release park brake, then unbuckle seat belt

You should immediately hear 2 short beeps, and when you apply parking brake you will hear 2 beeps again. This indicates that AUX2 is configured for the correct telemetry. I recommend doing this 2 times.
